not gonna lie living in the united states is a misery inducing hellscape, and one of the primary aspects of that is the catch 22 of The Car.
you cant live without one, you almost literally CANT. you will struggle in every aspect of your life if you do not have easy and straightforward access to motorvehicular travel.
buying and owning a car, however, is a Trap. you dont just need a car, you're on the hook for 100s of dollars of monthly insurance, repairs, roadside assistance, and thats besides the gas you have to put in the thing. if you mess up the minimum is 100s of dollars of fines, if you mess up badly you can end up spending a month or two in prison.
you might be fooled into thinking your life begins when you get your car, but thats just the sound of the collar snapping tight around your neck. you can never take a break from the grind again.
stop being horny about that and think about it for a second. you trip and break your leg and you cant drive for a month, no one else is allowed to move your vehicle because your insurance is a pissbaby, you need to move it every seven days though so the street can get cleaned.
on top of your medical problems and lost income you now have hundreds of dollars of fines and, oh look at that, a boot. you can no longer move your car even if you were physically able to. and now its towed. your plural thousand dollar investment is now being held hostage behind just as much fines and fees.
