it took me a couple of hours to be able to make random level layouts. (kinda like what binding of issac does)
it then took me a week and a half to display a little minimap that matches the room layout.
but holy hell i did it!
next up i need to make the room you're in blink or something.
its interesting how clear it was that i needed to add this to the game literally right after i added random levels.
i never really realized how important a minimap like this is to the whole dungeon delving feel. without it i was just wandering. not only did i have no idea where i was going, i constantly forgot where i even came from. this is probably something that happens a lot in making games like this. it felt like such a small thing that i could have made half the game without having. TIL
i think a lot of games only show parts of the map as you explore, that way theres still a bit of unknown to it. i will probably implement that too, but for now its useful to me to be able to see what kind of levels my code is generating.
