Having a sense of touch is something i usually file under "don't worry about it", but I'd imagine it feels like getting your teeth worked on but in other parts of your body. Weird. It probably doesn't hurt too bad or else they wouldn't be throwing themselves off of the nearest cliff for sick flips.
Though most of the time if repairs are that intensive you can just disconnect the core from the rest of 'em and put it in a temporary frame. Or just put it on the desk and hook it up to a camera or the internet if they want to do something. Turning it off for extended periods can be disorienting.
Skiffs and Emmie are technically different canons but they kinda operate under the same rules. (Emmie's definitely more cartoony than skiffs though, i don't really have any "ai core" explanations for her. She's just like that.)
