On March 27th, 2016 (Easter Sunday, no less) my partner Della and I found kittens in our backyard for the first time (of goddamn MANY) which absolutely altered the course of our lives.
As the only yard without a dog in a neighborhood with seemingly infinite dogs, we somehow got designated a feral cat safe-drop location and the process would repeat itself over and over again every several months for the next few years (even after we moved 300 miles south of the first kitten portal opening - people joke that the portal follows us) so we accepted out fate and started operating a cat rescue from our home. IE - We trap ferals, work with TNR programs in our area to get them fixed and rehomed, re-released into the wild, or adapt to living with our permanent cat colony.
It's bonkers to me that it's been going on for seven years, but that also means Snowapple and his siblings are all SEVEN now, holy shit.
Anyway - the photos above are all from the first week or so.
Here's what those same monsters look like now:

Anyway - rescue cats!! There are so many of them out there and one unfixed lady can have over 24 kittens in the span of a year - exponential growth gets out of control. Our first 13 all came from the same mom who evaded capture for years.
but yea - happy kitten portal day to all whom celebrate.
today's mouse: pocket mouse! very cozy!
