Speaking of, I'm surprised how great the new Mario Party looks.
I thought Super Mario Party (despite its incredible sales) was one of the weaker entries in the series while Superstars was solid. I think NDcube have been really inconsistent with the quality of the series. Every time it feels like they're so close to making the perfect Mario Party they somehow manage to veer off course before the finish line. I'm optimistic about Jamboree, though I don't really have any reason to be. I just have a good feeling.
I remember playing the heck out of Mario Party 4 & 5 as a kid. Mario Party 4 had some of the best minigames in the series, but the boards were awful. Meanwhile, 5 had some really cool board designs, but the minigames were often just meh. So I guess Hudson Soft wasn't much better. It's possible that the perfect Mario Party doesn't exist.
The character dice was a great mechanic in Super, but kind of ruined by the pathetic game boards. I'd love to see that return, although there was no indication of that from the trailer unfortunately. There's not otherwise much of a point to having so many playable characters.
I played 4. Can't say I remember it. Mario Party 2 was probably the one I spent the most time with.
I've (apparently) played them all but I couldn't tell you a thing about the other Cube ones.
