Honestly - fuck British Gas

First, charged £3,000 for a month of electric. Ring up - they admit it's obviously an error and they'll get the money back to me. They'll ring me back in a few days.

Obviously never fucking do.

Ring again, "yeah - we'll sort that now, don't know why it hasn't been done." Seems it's getting sorted. (No - I still don't have the money).

My apparent massive ridiculous energy use causes my direct debit to be a minimum of over £500. Won't let me decrease it any lower than that. So Ring up again (third time). Guy changes it. Seems good.

Notice I have a £597 pending British Gas charge. Ring up, again (number 4), "don't worry - you definitely won't be charged that on the 1st July."

1st July - get charged £597. Ring up AGAIN (5th time), "Oh they should have told you to cancel your direct debit as the new amount won't go into effect until 1st August" - buddy, I RANG PREVIOISLY TO CHECK THIS.

So now I've been promised I'll actually get my money back Friday (all of it) and after that I need to contact the person about some compensation.

Don't worry about my mortgage or me being able to afford food or anything British Gas. Living off rice and water is wonderful.

Parents are treating me to a food shop (which at 35 is fucking ridiculous) but, like my mortgage has gone up and is due in a few days so credit rating will be fucked.

It's just all shit. I hate it.

I really hope the stress of this subsides for you soon. Sounds like something that would severely weigh on me.

Don't feel bad about needing help from your parents, though. That's what they're there for. Pride too often gets in the way of seeking the solution to one's problem(s).

Honestly man it's ruined my sleep. I'm like on 2-3 hours tops.

I've lived penniless before (Mc Donalds codes, cleaning supplies and toilet paper from University - they help) but I'm hoping it doesn't come to that.

I absolutely hate asking the parents for help because my older brother is such a sponge and has asked far too often. But, yeah - has came in handy this time.

It's mostly the fact my super low mortgage rate has increased, so that means being more careful with money anyway, and thus if that comes out before this is sorted it's going to cause a whole load of problems.

Escalate the SHIT out of that. It's your 5th call and they're now critically damaging your finances. They owe you some kind of make-good. Immediately ask to talk to a supervisor. Maybe you already did all that, I'm just saying in case you didn't. Good luck. Jesus.

Last one said she'd authorise the payment straight away (will still take up to 5 days), obviously wanting that to be the end of the call, and I asked that a supervisor approves it while I'm on the line.

If, my lord I better, I don't have the money Friday I have everyone's names I've spoken to, all the reference numbers and the last ones work email and then I get to speak to someone higher-up.

I’m so sorry - that’s such fucking horseshit and there’s zero accountability for these monopolies. Also if you didn’t catch it they’d happily fuck you even more. These monopolies get sued every year and ever year are determined to overcharge customers in the millions. But do customers get that money back? Almost never.
