tumblr did not get pulled from the app store for porn, it was because they had a child porn problem. apple is not responsible for the porn ban. it's tumblr.

they just used it as an excuse to ban porn and take like none of the blame because they could make it seem like evil old apple was forcing them to. they did it because running a site where adult content isn't allowed is significantly easier, esp. when dealing with payment processors and the like.

they could easily bring it back, and if they wanna be extremely safe they could just do what reddit and discord already do and lock it behind a toggle on the website so no poor unsuspecting minors could be exposed to nsfw content without actively seeking it out.

they could even lock that behind an age gate, what a concept.

Apple's draconian stance on NSFW content is really easy to look up, emphasis mine:

If your app includes user-generated content from a web-based service, it may display incidental mature “NSFW” content, provided that the content is hidden by default and only displayed when the user turns it on via your website.

But why would Apple implement this ludicrous policy? It's because of pressure from payment processors like MasterCard and Visa, who are captured by lobbyists from the NCOSE, an organization whose aim is to stop child sexual exploitation (good) by banning pornography from the Internet (bad):

In sum, pornography is a deeply damaging social influence that corrodes relationships, erodes the sensibilities and sexual freedom of consumers, and dehumanizes those used to make it.

Here's what that means for adult content creators:

Tumblr indeed claimed their app was pulled because of all the CSAM (It's CSAM, not "child porn") on their platform, which is an astonishing thing to admit:

The fact that Cohost explicitly allows NSFW content is unique because it will get them in trouble with the payment processors eventually.

P.S. Giving the NCOSE an inch on age verification is a bad idea. The organization cheered on France's decision to block five major adult video platforms if they did not implement "stricter age verification," which meant scanning people's faces to access adult sites. France is now looking to expand this law to all social media platforms.

in reply to @mrhands's post:

NCOSE also known as the infamous Morality In Media are a highly motivated little cult of fanatics. They've been doing this shit longer than most of us have been alive, founded in the 60s. They're bastards through and through. One of the most dangerous organizations against free expression on the internet. Just feel it's important to remember that NCOSE is a rebrand, and they sure don't give a damn about children.
