I did a bunch of normal raids yesterday. Athena was getting rowdy again so I had to beat up her and her minions — twice, once on my own and once with my friend Kaiya. This is getting pretty routine, and I was having a good day so it went particularly smoothly. The new raid quartet is surprisingly easy at normal difficulty — it’s a little anticlimactic, but I will take it over the brutal Eden raids.
Even though I’ve been a Warrior main for a while, I’m still learning to use the job better. In this case, I’m finally getting a good feel for how to save my resources for my burst window without overcapping. This is coming in handy, I think — I feel virtuous about keeping my biggest damage output within burst windows, even though it’s not so important for normal difficulty content. It’s too bad Savage fights are so brutal. I would like to try something a little harder sometimes, but Savage raids take better players than I and beat their faces into the floor.
I also ended up going on a bit of a tear and completing my entire Wondrous Tails book the day I got it. That was an interesting experience. I ended up healing Dusk Vigil with a new Warrior who wasn’t using their mitigations enough, then healing Qitana Ravel with a couple first-timers who had a hard time dodging mechanics. Both times were with a new and hesitant tank who took small pulls, so they were slow, but I’m happy to cut a new tank some slack. Too few people are willing to tank at all, I don’t want to discourage anyone.
I also did several Disciple of Magic job quests yesterday. I’m in the process of getting all jobs to level cap, with a particular eye towards getting rid of low level equipment. To that end I’ve been leveling all my lower-level magic jobs (Summoner/Scholar, Astrologian, Black Mage) together. I realized that I would start getting artifact equipment at level 45, though, so once I got the Scholar 45 job quest I leveled it to 50 and temporarily ignored the other jobs. I finished off the ARR Scholar quests, started the job’s Heavensward quest line, did the same for Summoner, then also did the Astrologian 45 quest for good measure.
All in all, yesterday was a busy day for me in FFXIV. Today I will probably take things easier, although I might knock out runs of Aglaia and Euphrosyne to build up a stockpile of their coins for patch 6.5.
