Almost caught up on the excellent Yatagarasu: The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master and Rokon is not the type of character I’m usually interested in at all but something about his relationship to Natsuka is so compelling to me, especially the way that he has to serve his master by deliberately acting against his official orders so that Natsuka’s true will can be executed without his hands being dirtied. What it reminds me of more than anything else is Klaus’ relationship to Taki in Maiden Rose, and honestly I think Natsuka is far more interesting and attractive than Taki. I’d love to read some kind of fic about them in this vein but sadly I think this series is going to go under without a trace, it’s too slept on. With the success of Apothecary Diaries you would think more people would be ready for a good josei in this kind of setting!

Honestly when I first glanced at these screencaps I thought it was Waver and Iskander from Fate which wasn't a pairing I thought I'd see from you (because age difference I guess but also Iskander is... old) but I also didn't really bat an eyelash. Which is funny NOW knowing it's NOT EVEN those two. So I guess subconsciously(!?) I was already down for this based on aesthetics alone but the dynamic is selling me.

I also (somewhat to moderately guiltily) enjoy Maiden Rose and you're so right that they have a really interesting dynamic I don't see enough of. You're selling me on this!!! Probably going to watch it now. (Sorry for paragraph, excited ramble!!!!!)

It’s a really good show, I think you’re going to like it a lot! They use the villains very sparingly for the early part of the series but as things heat up I think we’re going to see a lot more of Natsuka’s faction. And yes, he is really carrying this pairing in terms of looks— Rokon is not blessed in that department although I think that brutal, weathered look really works for this specific dynamic lol. I liked them together aesthetically but it didn’t seriously cross my mind until this episode where they raise the plot point that Natsuka never actually issues orders and just trusts Rokon to operate as his attack dog, then the wheels really started turning.

The protagonists of the series are also very cute together although they are not really for me, but you can tell the tension between them was intentional so if you do like them you will be eating good
