I love these, if only because they keep popping a lot of nostalgy bubbles for me =)
Ahhhh really good!
i never managed to play the previous Tribes, i played Tribes Ascend for a while, but with a ping of 250 to 999 on a internet of 250 kbps it was not good to play it
i played Thief 1 2 years ago and 2 last month for the first time, and i do like the inventory a bit (i guess i still would love more a grid one) i can easily put arros and items on some keybinds (i put a bunch of items on my keypad to simulate me taking from my pocket) and the other "key" items scrolling down the mouse wheel trying to get a key while a guard is almost figuring out i am there trying to find my keys.
I guess this GIF kind of illustrates this

People found a PT-BR version that was lost media for a while translated by Brasoft of Trepasser that I managed to play a bit, but didn't go further, I should play a little more again.
Seeing that again that part of the opening of Shogo with the protag literally mag dumping someone even when they down and the song going "I khow we can make it TOGETHER" still makes me laugh out of my control!
i can see why you made it so long, there're so many games that have something cool to add to the table!
congrats on finishing,,,
also thank you for remembering trespasser. not that i ever played it (or like you said, anyone should really play it,) but it was the first real video lp that we watched. researchindicates on youtube did an lp of it (it's still on lparchive & youtube i believe!) it's really, good if anyone is ever interested in watching the game focused on the game itself, and researchindicates does explicitly give breathing room for the monologues.
1998 was a wild ass year, congrats on getting through it! for me its greatest significance has always been as a clear inflection point for the diversification of the genre. at the point you have HL1, Rainbow Six, Thief, and NAM all piling in, none of these are really "Doom Killers" anymore, they're relatively disparate points in a large wide open creative space. it was fascinating to witness and some of those still hold up pretty well.
hope you get to cover whatever would be most fulfilling next. when you do finally start thinking about 1999, i'm happy to offer the contents of my databanks on Shock 2 - obviously i wasn't at Irrational during its development but i worked with several people who were.
This was great. If you don't mind, I'd like to suggest a less well known shooter to include in the back half of your 1999 video, whenever you decide to start on it. Nerf Arena Blast - a 1999 Unreal Engine arena shooter where extremely cool kids shoot each other with real nerf guns

It's not great, but i remember it being surprisingly competent.
I think history of anything videos are always compelling. Maybe juggling multiple series on the history of different types of games would help?
