So this dredged up another memory in the same vein:

So I live in the Washington DC area. I went to college in DC and decided to stick around, having you know, made a life for myself and stuff. There was a musical comedy group called the Capitol Steps, which started in 1981 and got killed by COVID in 2020.

They did song covers with lyrics related to current and past US political news and scandals. Let me tell you; you aren’t ready to hear a George W. Bush impersonator sing “Help Rwanda” to the tune of “Help Me Rhonda”

At the time, I thought it was something unique and funny and sort of worldly. The group was originally founded by hill staffers and I was much more positive on SNL-style lampooning at the time. Now it just seems kinda embarrassing at best.
