Like yea of course for the physical things like housing and land, obviously, but perhaps much more so to the idea of intellectual property, and it's mostly because of the way I analyze things. I tend to think of humans as a species that are destined for something much bigger than the individual level that is typically focused on. As a species, we've made many amazing things: works of art, technological advancements, scientific breakthroughs, and many more. And yet we adhere to arbitrary societal rules and regulations that ultimately stunt our growth and leave us unprepared to handle problems at increased scales. We have a housing problem? A homeless problem? More empty buildings then homeless people? An alien species would look at that and probably assume it is a self-solving problem, but the division of humanity into this or that class or ideology or religion or whatever political parties there are just continues to hurt us as a species. I have a lot of hope for our species because of our potential, our progress, and the vastness of all the possibilities that continue to open up before us, and yet we continue to maintain and create systems that ensure that stunt our growth and development as a species. We should be at a level of advancement where poverty no longer exists, where no human goes hungry, where no human is homeless, where ideas and knowledge are considered a heritage to our species, and yet here we are, having things like kings and lords and millionaires and billionaires and organizations of violence, terror and harassment based on the "otherness" of individuals belonging to the same species.
But maybe I'm just resentful because I seem incapable of "adapting" to oppressive norms that are enforced. Maybe the species that consists of 8 billion potential Da Vinci's is not as important as the money I could be making by exploiting them in a way that prevents them from reaching their goals and potential. Maybe some people deserve success and others deserve to suffer.
But I mean wow, isn't it seriously fucked up to reach the capability to support the entire human population in a way that eliminates hunger, poverty and homelessness, and we just don't do it because there's no clear financial incentive to do so. A system of arbitrary tokenship in which a huge majority of said tokens are passed down from generation to generation, the value of the tokens are determined by those most successful at accumulation of tokens, and the distribution of tokens determined by how valuable the people with lots of tokens think the work being done is.
Oh, you want to house homeless people? That won't earn us tokens, get out of here with that. Oh, you want to provide housing to people with a bunch of rules and regulations attached that restrict personalization in how they can be used or modified? Sounds exploitative, here's a big sack of tokens to help you out.
Like... we really need to get over the tokens. Human beings are so much more valuable than tokens, and our potential is being squashed because of our insistence on accumulation of tokens.
We don't need tokens. The only things that are needed to create something are the resources, and the energy to use/alter those resources into what we want to create. As a species, we truly do not need to monetize the world. The world is our heritage, it is our responsibility, and it is our home. We should not be exploiting it or its inhabitants for tokens.
