it'd be so cool if I could take the commuter train from lowell to worcester without needing to brave that north-south gap. at least I can get to salem I guess
all inbound trains really ought to have an optional extra free stop that takes you to the opposing station. all outbound trains should start at the opposing station. imagine. a perfect future world
I mean, as long as you have the tunnel they should definitely go all the way and have through running. Saves a bunch of time and money on giant depots in the middle of the city.
I think it's to match the subway map, where they're the same color to contrast with the subway lines. Not that this is a good excuse...
the actual solution would be to show subway and commuter rail with a different line (thick/thin or thick/hollow) and then colour lines as they please

Amtrak's official recommendation is to get off the train at Back Bay instead and take the Orange Line. Not a great look tbh
