i desperately wish someone would make a mastodon fork that's just twitter 2 with end-to-end encrypted dms. no federation, no weird infighting between admins, just fucking do twitter 2 with modern tumblr ruleset so i can openly say shit like 'if more politicians went out the way shinzo abe did the world would be a better place' without an instant ban and a no-knock warrant from an alphabet agency

i don't want to host my own server, i don't want to have to worry about some other instance's admin seeing me and deciding they don't like me and blocking me from interacting with everyone on their instance, i think that entire model fucking sucks. i also think dms should always be end-to-end encrypted, especially when any instance owner can view them. i fundamentally do not believe in masto's model is the thing.
i totally get not wanting to host your own server, and i more meant that’s a thing ppl can anyone can do— it’s like installing wordpress.
and like if your goal is an identical copy to masto but without federation, anyone could just… make a masto server and not federate it? like that’s how it works. i’m not saying you’re wrong that the federation blocking model has issues just that it’s something that, if you only care about having a separate social media site, you can just ignore that completely
