trying to stay off the Internet altogether was actually not particularly helpful to me
but what does seem to be very important
is sticking to the parts that make me say "I could try that!" instead of the parts that make me say "I'm better than that!"
though one thing you do realize when you go offline is the tremendous generosity of the Internet. obviously, and famously, not the corporations who run the big-money parts of the infrastructure. but almost everyone else in here is posting ridiculous amounts of information for free.
like, as soon as a reasonably-well-known book becomes public domain you know you can always get it online. it's only the copyright that was holding it back. it's never like, oh, well, since there's no money in it, no one bothered to scan and upload it. there is always someone who bothered. I love that.
