10 years ago we wanted to be a streamer/V-tuber. Many people in our life said the job was made for us (we're a huge nerd, very emotionally expressive, charismatic, and generally enjoy that sort of atmosphere and motif).
However, due to finishing college (graduated in 2014) and later being in what we call "the period of rolling abuse" and (LOTS OF) trauma from the same, that wasn't tenable in our life.
We thought about this because we realized that since we moved from <RED STATE> to <CURRENT PLACE>, for the first time in a decade that's a viable thing we could try.
Then we remembered all the AI scraping going on, and how I'd basically have to both enable the conspiracy to automate (and make obsolete) the entire working class as well as have my very personhood be taken from me and turned into a corporate copyright I would have no control over.
Not super bummed, not sure we could really sustain it since we both have our day job, and due to disability having to maintain our sleep schedule for said day job is an all day task (that's not something we can just do, we have to actively work to keep that up).
Still, kinda sucks in a "monkeys paw wish" sort of way that something I have been moderately interested in for a decade finally turns out to be viable, but would enable far too much terrible shit to be able to engage with it ethically.
ETA: AI deep fakes are already starting to be used for harassment campaigns, and culture hasn't caught up (it's only a matter of time before somebody is framed for something very bad with a deep fake and nobody believes the person who was harassed). That's another reason we can't safely do this, ESPECIALLY given that we're trans.
