the poison maze in mario 64 is a reference to King's Field's¹ poison swamp AND water cave with a poison water quest²

1: allegedly. that is to say, allegedly there is a poison swamp and poison water quest from a cursory Google search. I've never played it. I'm working backwards. this isn't real
