Gonna speak publicly about some shit going on. We haven't since we are in the thick of it, but the specific person who we're trying to avoid seeing this doesn't know this account exists and frankly this feels important enough to publicly address.
In the interest of avoiding lashon hara, we are going to stick solely to the facts and not name names.
So there was a server we were a former mod of (we gave that up after it imploded, and frankly we weren't at a good point in our life where we could really do mod stuff, but that's neither here nor there).
This server is a plural friendly mysticism server. All the founders and later mods were plural including ourselves. The space was 90% plural at its peak and even more so now that it's dormant.
It was a founding decision specifically to not have pluralkit there. The founders thought (and we agree) that it was inimical to a server where the intent is to study, learn, understand, and find mystic community (since tools that project identity may impede understanding a sort of connectedness between beings). On top of that, the current head of the server is on the record in desiring to help stimulate and manifest a different form of plurality not contingent on PK.
Now, a lot of the mods including all the founders were what we call plural old guard (a group we ourselves are a part of), and many of them we recall on the Queer Plural Gang server while it was at its peak in early 2019 (which also doesn't have PK, but for different reasons). We were systems that formed, crystalized, and solidified before the bot was as ubiquitous as it was. Many of us appreciate having it, but none of us needed it.
Two things happened that none of us expected.
-
The server grew much bigger and faster then expected.
-
Newer systems apparently were more reliant on PK then a lot of us "old guard" were.
As a result the request for PK eventually got brought up and more and more people wanted it. However many others including some of the founders specifically found their plurality stronger and themselves generally more comfortable without it.
Put simply, the people who truly needed PK were in the minority. Some left over this, which is completely fair. Sucks to lose them because we liked them, but we respect their decision.
What we have much more difficulty respecting is claiming that not having the tool is "forcing a system to integrate" and that somehow being either a deliberate act of violence, or an act of criminal negligence on behalf of the powers that be there. And given that the server is ran by and for plural systems, it feels far-fetched by saying it's somehow discriminatory against plural systems to not have the tool.
Now, there are incidents where not having the tool can be discriminatory. Saying "it will confuse the singlets" or people objecting to it on bullshit medicalism IS discriminatory no bones about it. But this isn't that.
These are plural systems in a plural friendly server making a command decision that is supported by many other plural systems there. Some of the systems actually needed the environment to be this way.
On top of that, it was explained rather clearly to the people who object to this, including one who is maintaining this accusation of malicious action by the server to this day, that PK is not and will never be there. If there system is in danger they were free to leave and there are other mystic spaces that are PK friendly.
Put simply, they were warned.
At that point, continuing to stay and claim they are being harmed if the mods don't concede to their demands doesn't become an act of malice or negligence. These systems were properly warned and at that point all they have to blame is themselves.
It's like if you engaged in media that had a specific content warning, and then complain that said work did the thing it specifically warned you it would do (aka the Boyfriend Dungeon scandal). You were adequately warned, you went in anyway, you have nobody to blame but yourself.
Anyway, we bring this up because our instincts say this argument may be replicated in other space where a similar scenario and parameters may occur. There are lessons learned as a former mod of this to take in incase a similar sister server is spawned in the future. However, "not having PK" is not an act of violence when its disclusion is done specifically by and for plural systems participating.
