No, I don't have a problem with people enjoying weird and exotic food, you do you

It's more that a lot of the "foodies" I have experience with are like... when you make a statement such as "I really miss sit-down Pizza Huts" they'll be like "Why are you whining about franchise store pizza when you could be patronizing your local authentic neapolitan place" and my response to that is a big ol' fuuuuuuuck offfffff

Don't be an asshole about what other people eat! Unless it's Soylent or something similarly sus

related: there is a big "hut" style pizza hut around that used to do sit-down and basically managed to stay looking like an 80s pizza hut all this time. corporate dictated that ALL pizza huts go to delivery-only, so this enormous place is now just a single desk and kitchen with piles of pizza boxes in the back.

I went there to order a pan pizza the other day, around when my friends got free pan pizzas for buying that new Ninja Turtles game. It tasted exactly like it did back in the old days and also three or four different groups of people came in expecting to be able to sit down and eat. All left mad.

one time this guy at the VoIP company we worked at kept calling us "a foodie" for bringing our leftover homemade mattar paneer for lunch, and we were like "can you stop calling us that? we don't like being called that", and he got all pissy, like "can't you take a compliment?"

bro! it's not a compliment! we don't want it!

soylent is hilarious as a company, or was anyway, no idea about them in the present but original recipe soylent saved my ass when digestive issues got serious and eating most things felt like more trouble than it was worth and most liquid supplements I could find weren't suitable meal replacements or despite being "suitable for lactose intolerance" they all made me sick from milk-derived ingredients somehow anyway?

this was around the time of "soylent food bar gives people violent diarrhea, vanishes without a trace" and not that long after the double whammy of "foil seals are bad UX"/"oops we sent all of you moldy bottles. wonder why that is." and it still did its job well enough not to drive me away?!

anyway I wouldn't necessarily say I recommend it unless it's vital, but even the shit they gave me in the hospital made me sick compared to it, so that's a real head-scratcher for me. the takeaway is less "soylent is good actually" and more "we need better products in this space not made by psycho tech bros who think we've evolved past eating"

also we need more pizza huts. if anything's gonna be hard on my digestion it should be stuffed crust pepperoni pizza and not a fucking can of Boost
