I love these ideas and I agree with everything Patty's on about here, but at first glance it might seem like "Identity Death" would constitute all TF that doesn't incorporate anything physical from the normal human form. But I think there's something really powerful in the dialogue Patty adds here.

Honestly, I'd always used identity death to mean what you describe as personality death, but I might adopt this particular differentiation because it is very useful to be more specific when you're talking kink 😭 Thanks for writing out your definitions here!
Same boat here. The precise definition and boundaries of what was meant by ID within TF sequences has generally been pretty fuzzy and individual in the spaces I frequent so having cleaner definitions laid out like this is extremely helpful.

It's interesting, because I always use "identity death" as kind of interchangeable with "ego death", because as far as I'm concerned, the outside world's perception of your identity is meaningless in relation to your relationship with your identity (though it does affect it in a gravitational way, the more you wear the mask, the more you become the mask.) That said, it's just the first term I came across to really describe the concept. I generally prefer my own "ego corrosion" (thank you Limbus Company), to more describe what's going on in my work, though I think the finality of "ego death" is more... correct in my case?
Glad to have helped prompt this write-up; I've always personally had a lotta trouble with Personality Death, but focusing on Identity Death can itself be something really fun! Sometimes you wanna leave a little tinge of the old you in your style, maybe, but also sometimes that being the last thing that's Lost and thus makes the transformation Complete is really fun too~!
I think a lot of the confusion also comes down to a lot of TF scenarios out there tend to be identity death and the person in question accepting or even owning their newfound looks, as though the ego was only temporary and the last thing to go in a TF sequence.
But I definitely see the appeal of both and how much they differentiate!
