Making games, rarely finishing

*All of this is theoretical, because my summer is consumed by a MUCH bigger project

The common wisdom in ttrpg space design spaces seems to be that you make a few hacks and supplements for existing games, build up a following and then make your Big Game. Obviously not universally true, but making content is a widespread practice.

And everytime I think about it with envy. I can't do that. I mean, I can and I have a playbook idea half written somewhere. But also I can't. Those things are usually made out of flavor. A different setting, a different type of guy, a different mood. And I like me some flavor, but I'm never so in love with any to put it on top of what's there.

And like, rationally I believe that I don't have to measure my worth against others. But emotionally this is so close to what I do, that it still stings when I can't.

I think they're two very different but complementary skills in a similar way to drawing and painting. Both can inform each other but being bad at one doesn't say a lot about your ability to do the other
