Making games, rarely finishing

I think one of my hottest takes is that (english speaking) enbies need a neopronoun.

Here's the thinking. There's a very important function that they/them serves as the neutral pronoun. The I may or may not know the person's preferred pronouns, but this is not a context where that is strictly relevant pronoun. It's the "prefer not to say" option. And whatever pronoun fills that function, should be one that nobody objects to being referred to with. By nature of being the uncommitted pronoun. And they/them is right there. It's been in use with this function for several centuries.

However, since it's right there, in easy reach, it has also picked up a second function. The one that gender selection drop downs call "other". Referring to a specific conception of self. And that leads to confusion and uncertainty, feeling disrespected, and possibly even gatekeeping. Cause suddenly being referred to as them sounds like being put in a specific category, not a generic referent.

Of course, experiences and preferences are infinite in variety, keeping with the neutral is as valid as anything else. I just think that if moving off of they/them is an option, it should be embraced.
