So to take a breather from Terra Invicta I started playing Workers and Resources.
And boy, you know the concept of the podcast game. A game so mindless, you can take up information in parallel, but your also kinda not doing "podcast listening" as the activity. In this framework, W&R:SR is the podcast and I'm looking for a game to pair with it.
What I mean is, Soviet Republic is a very slow game. My main point of comparison – Dwarf Fortress – is a game your could let run, but I find myself going and messing with it every few minutes. Order new doors, plan new bedrooms, buy new instruments nobody knows how to play. Workers isn't like that. I ask for 2 prefab housing rectangles to be built. It will take an amount of time until they're done. I have no idea how much time. Maybe everything runs smoothly, workers are available and not distracted by some other project. Maybe my gravel stockpile runs out and new stone isn't being quarried, because the workers are busy waiting for gravel at my housing projects. Either way, it might take 5 minutes. It might take an hour. And there's not terribly much you can do to interfere in the specifics. But also, you don't notice those inbetween moments. You just blink and suddenly it's 2 hours later.
So yeah, it pairs well with a podcast. But I think it'll pair even better with living on one screen, while I try to speedrun Shogun Showdown on the other. And I just check in between runs to adjust the five year plan. (more like 6 month plan, the years don't fly by as fast as I expected)
