on my phone and was very quickly struck with Thoughts™
Here's the cool stuff. It's a modern FFT/Tactics Ogre. With a dash of fire emblem. It's a tactics game that's playing through a civil war. And it's very directly and explicitly about making decisions in key turning points. There's a narrative frame that asks you to go back to such points and see if you can steer history in a better different direction. It's pretty neat in that sense. It's also quite streamlined, you don't need to update 4 items of gear on all troops, you kinda just have to remember which archer rolled the stun move and which one got the multishot. In this way, it would be a pretty good get, if you recently replayed TO and want something like it, but not it.
HOWEVER
That's all wrapped up in a VERY gacha game. It has all the classics of freemium. 7 different currencies, different categories of rolling for a character, all the probability fudging to make the start feel cool, an timed energy based non-story battle mode that you need to do before you even get access to playing the story. The story is also gated behind items that are themselves timed. It's all a mess that's there to confuse and frustrate. And exploit.
I'll probably keep playing. Cause the game in the middle is pretty neat. But the wrapping, blegh, nasty. Do not like, do not enjoy, do not recommend.
