It's been a family tradition for a few years to mark the end of summer with a bunch of potato pancakes. My dad is the one who makes them and as such has created a lot of beliefs about how that process should be done. And out family line is that you HAVE to grate the potatoes into a fine paste. No strands allowed.
Anyway, this year my partner and I caused a stir by bringing out blender along. Which makes the grating process 20x quicker and involves 100% fewer scratched up fingers/knuckles.
Despite a bit of initial grumbling, the resulting blended paste was deemed good enough. And we ended up having so much batter, we had to take some pancakes back with us, to snack on on the ride home.
And if you wanna pick up this tradition, what you do is liquefy some potatoes. For every ~400g add an egg and 1-2 tablespoons of flour. Salt liberally. Fry both sides on a very oily pan until crunchy and brown. Best consumed with a bit of sour cream.
I forgot that I actually wrote down the recipe. Nice!
