I made this paper puzzle type in early 2022 but never posted it on my blog. Whoops! Well, this is a perfect excuse to post about it here now.

i made a couple of my own! (i think. i haven't run them past a computer.) i tried to minimize gray cells so there were more bricks to lay. i wonder if you can get a nice 8x8 puzzle with only two gray cells?

i like the way that bricks propagate from other bricks in this puzzle, it's very pleasing. it reminds me of other puzzles, like a version of dominosa that's purely geometrical, or a version of binairo that is fun

EDIT: whoops, that second one is unsolvable. thanks to @jgs for noticing

Bricklayer is cool! I wrote a solver and validator for it in pure python. Hosting a python fiddle is weirdly hard so I just threw it up on colab.

Unfortunately there don't seem to be any legal 8x8s with only two shaded cells, but I'm sure there's some interesting cases to be discovered!
