So, about three weeks ago I did one of my many theorycraft builds for Lancer. The tl;dr of it is that it's a mech that utilizes/weaponizes wrecks.
What's fun is that - just through conversing with other Lancer players and their own wacky ideas - I can look at these builds and make them even sillier. I mentioned at the end of the theorycraft itself that putting Superheavy Mounting and a Combat Drill could make for a very hilarious melee brawler concept.
But yesterday - while talking about self-destructing one's mech - I realized something even more entertaining: Kangto Endochassis. Which is a GMS (aka available for everyone) core bonus that lets you eject a second, smaller mech out of your first. Either when you just want to use that one... or, more likely, if your main mech is about to explode or melt down. And this second mech has its own (slightly reduced) health pool and stats... but still enough that it can use most of the Donner's loadout pretty effectively.
So the end result is that a smaller, angrier Donner can eject out of the first one... and cannibalize its own wreck to get the ball rolling again. And it still has most of its weapons - including that aforementioned Combat Drill if you slapped that on. Which is just a hilarious mental image and a concept I don't think I've ever come up with anywhere else but Lancer.
It's a game where you can make such a wide range of mech types. From a standard rank-and-file basic Gundam-esque thing to paracasual nightmares that defy logic. Or a mech cannibal that has a smaller, angrier mech cannibal waiting inside it... which can in turn be piloted by a NHP PC using a subaltern body that can also blow itself up like some sort of Matroyshka doll of explosions.
And I love it for that.
