M. stands for Marcus, there were only like seven Roman first names, very generic. a porcus is a time swine, ie a pig, so his family name Porcius means something like Piggy. a latro is a brigand, highwayman, or robber, and you may know it as the protagonist of the two novels in Gene Wolfe's Latro in the Mist and we can only wonder how he or an ancestor ended up with this reputational name.

so this gentleman's name means something like Piggy the Thief or, if you will... The Hamburglar
