I’m an academic who does things with philology, cultural history, book/media history, and labor. But that doesn’t mean I don’t also have 500+ hrs playtime in XCOM 2.

I dreamed up a Wes Anderson movie that doesn't exist but now I really want to see it.

It's called Dr. Petal's Pole Pile Extravaganza. It takes place in American pioneer times, I guess circa 1840. Dr. Petal is a disgraced doctor from the east coast who wants a fresh start after having accidentally killed one of his patients, the wife of some prominent politician.

So he's all sad and on a wagon and he sees this spot in like, the middle of Nebraska, and he says oh wow, wouldn't it be better if this random hilltop in the middle of nowhere had, just, a pile of junk on it?

So he goes back east and starts collecting lumber, think like telephone poles, and starts taking them to this place and just... standing them up. Some dug in the ground, some leaning on those, etc.

And meanwhile all the people he hires and the random wagon trains are like, this guy's crazy! Why would you spend all your money putting giant poles in the ground!

Because seriously, why.

And then at the end, he's completed his vision, and everybody's like, well, I don't know what you've done, but you've sure done it. And indeed he did.

In my dream it had all those weird Wes Anderson aesthetics, too, like I can't describe it but you know what it's like.

I can only imagine this film did terribly at the box office but gained a cult following after.
