Figured I'd at least say something here to show I'm alive! Honestly, this place seems kind of nice and I wouldn't mind something like this taking the place of Twitter. Not sure that'll happen, but we'll see.

Thought I'd take this opportunity to share a game I'd spent the past few days playing and having fun with. I'd been looking a little bit into the Cave Story modding scene, stumbling on things like "unofficial sequels", randomizers and multiplayer clients. One of the other very interesting things I found is called Doukutsu Randamu, which turns Cave Story into a rougelite with procedurally generated stages. You explore large and dangerous maps, discovering plenty of interesting new weapons and upgrades. You're going to need those to survive, as the general power level of enemies/weapons/upgrades eventually exceed the vanilla game. It actually kind of reminds me of Spelunky, where you need to pay close attention to your surroundings or die horribly. That said, it's long form enough that there are save points. My first "successful" run took me about 4 hours to complete, and that was on the lowest difficulty setting. It's not without faults, but there's enough cool stuff here that I'm surprised I hadn't heard of it sooner. If you like Cave Story, I'd recommend checking it out!
