The Magnolia Champaca, or Champak, is native to the Himalayan rainforests, and during monsoon season, can grow at a rate of inches per day. Unlike the Southern Magnolia, (magnolia grandiflora), the flowers are not very large or showy. However, the flowers produce a sweet scent that is one of the primary scents of the perfume Joy, leading the tree to sometimes be called, in English, the Joy perfume tree.
