the personal blog of the "no longer in their 20s" owner of the above blog, where i:
• play and write about video games (usually old ones i guess but anything goes)
• go thrifting for cool electronics / things that deserve to be tinkered with and fixed
• ignore my unimportant job as much as i can
• melt my brain with the weed (mute "#weed log" to mute me posting while high if you want)
in that order

not really nsfw but no minors please and thank

so i didn't realize it at the time, but when i got home and took the ipod out of that little protective sleeve thing, it felt light? super light in comparison to my 6th gen classic

while it was charging (the battery seems to be super tired, might explain why it was given to goodwill) the ipod itself reported having 120 GB instead of the 30 GB on the back of the case, and also the serial numbers didn't match, so it became apparent that this was either:

  • someones discarded pet project
  • a convincing counterfeit that conned me convincingly

thankfully it appears to be the former, since someone put in a quite-modern solution for upgrading the hard disc drive to a toshiba msata SSD! nice! although if someone bothered to upgrade it to an msata SSD, why not... just replace the battery? it's even easier to do when you're already in there. strange, right?

and also the previous owner had used it within the last 4 months to listen to a wide range of music, from john coltrane to blink-182 to 2pac to thrash metal to a playlist simply titled "Sad", i usually wipe the drives of old ipods i come across but i'm tempted to keep this one intact... or at least nab the cool music off of this that's in 320kbps
