Old Man Rant

My wife recently bought a Volvo XC60. I fucking HATE this car for one specific reason. It has a "lane assist" feature that takes over steering if it thinks you're going over the painted line. Semi riding a little too close one lane over so you drift to the left a bit? Surprise, bitch! I'm steering you straight toward it! A car left solid skid marks on the road? Well, guess we're following those unless you steer real hard!

Oh, and best part? If you want to turn it off, you have to do it EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. YOU. TURN. ON. THE. FUCKING. CAR.

If this is the new norm, I'm just gonna be replacing the transmission and engine in my 2016 F150 until I die of old age

That's weird. That would definitely annoy me too. My 2020 has lane assist as well but I happily turn that shit off and it stays off. It just does a lite beeping at me if I go over the line as a little heads up.

It's stupid bullshit and I want it to cause me to get in a bad enough accident to total the car but not kill me just to prove to her that it's a bullshit feature.

Also, there's a tiny possibility that I'm just overreacting, considering that I refuse to even use cruise control (literally to the point that I don't even know how to activate it in my truck), but I doubt that's playing into it at all.

Oh baby, I use CC allll the time. However, my wife's car does something with CC where if you get "too close" to another car in front of you, it automatically slows you down. The problem is, what it determines to be too close is waaay too far away to be slowing down all of a sudden and it drives me crazy (plus it feels dangerous when I have cars cruising along behind me).

Can you adjust when the car brakes. On my car you can change how many car lengths before it starts to brake.

Possibly, though I've never looked into it since I rarely drive her car. I did figure out how to turn on CC while canceling out that feature, so it only drove me crazy for a bit before I had that realization.

There are too much drivers on the road so I guess A.I assiting car stuff has learned that and is trying to crash all our cars so we stop driving everywhere

I blame Tesla, to many cars have annoying big touch screens and to many sensors. Pretty soon there will be a sensor when to take a dump. Lol
