I have friends reading Umineko right now so I will refrain from explaining my reasoning in too much detail to keep them safely un-spoiled.
Honestly though, I don't think it needs that much explanation. I think we can all agree Beatrice deserves a nice gold watch, can't we?
Light Defender Glow let loose a bright green beam that caused a row of dark legionnaires to collapse while Light Defender Flash set off an arc of electricity that chained up three more. The green Light Defender sank to a knee and panted as their leader, Dawn, brought up a warm orange shield dome around them that the shadowy soldiers pounded on.
"Glow! Are you alright?" Dawn asked, rushing to her friend's side.
"I'll be fine, D. We can take the jerks, no prob I just need to recharge." Glow answers with a wink that makes Dawn blush.
"I should fuel up too! That way we can do a triple attack!" Flash pulled out a few D Cell batteries from her small satchel and closed her eyes for a moment. Small sparks extended from the batteries to her hand and when she opened them her eyes glowed bright yellow. Glow nodded and shrugged off her large backpack and opened its lead lined compartment to pulled out a uranium glass vase shining a dull green. Dawn stepped back. Glow had a dangerous and rare energy source, but she understood it was her responsibility to shoulder this burden as a Light Defender.
Glow concentrated for a moment while Dawn strained to keep their shield up. The green light drained from the vase until it was naught but a glass vessel. Glow stood up brimming with energy.
"I'm all good Dawn. Let's teach these punks what happens when they mess with our city!"
Dawn let the shield fall and the three girls all channeled their energy together to create a tri colored blast that reduced the villains to their true form, immaterial shadows fleeing from the light.
Magical Guardian Jet Black looked down at her suit, doubtfully.
"This wasn't exactly... what I was expecting."
The talking dog that she'd agreed to help piped up, cheerfully, "I said you'd be using an ancient technology!"
"I guess that's..... technically true", she said, trying to inspect the piece of machinery tucked under the back of her dress, like a large bustle. By twisting around in front of a mirror, she could see the grate of some kind of furnace, with a slot on top she could just reach with her hands. It was surprisingly easy to move, despite the bulk, and she wasn't sure if it was the so-called 'ancient technology' helping her move, or if it was just well-balanced.
The pistons sticking out of her arms looked pretty cool, though, and she wound up a practice punch - one of the pistons pulled back and then shot forward with her arm, creating a shockwave in front of her fist, and a release of steam. Maybe this could work. "Still... you said it would be powered by a gemstone."
The dog nodded, apparently not seeing the issue. "Yes, it's in your name! Jet is full of potential energy from millennia ago, compressed into a precious gem!"
"Yeah, see, when you told me to become Magical Guardian Jet Black, I thought I would, like, have wings and fly, maybe? Like Strike Witches."
"Yes, you'll have to strike down many witches to keep the people of this age safe!"
"That's not what I- sigh, look, I'm willing to give it a shot, just... where the hell am I supposed to get a steady supply of COAL in the 21st century!?"
