someone who - who doesnt sell his soul, but instead, cedes a part of it. opens up residence for something else to live within him.

who's sick of having to choose, sometimes. choice can be nice. there was a time he lacked choice, and he'd prefer not to go back to that. but there are some choices he finds himself unable to make. so he gives up his ability to choose in these places, and thus, his ability to linger on them. he doesn't care if sometimes the choices made for him are mistakes. he simply wishes that they be made quickly and decisively.

she notices a change immediately after. one less question, one less thing to keep in the back of her mind. the choice is made, and now she'll act out its consequences wholeheartedly. she might be making a mistake, but she can't afford to think about that anymore. it's not up to her.

but as impactful as that was, it was just the first choice she had made for her.

soon, she found herself split into many. words were carved into her skin; sometimes ones that had been sat in her head, and other times new ones, ones that seemed to shine to her heart's shadow. her reflection changed in more and more ways as the years went on, and she let her shadow lead the way for her hands. for her mouth. for her eyes.

she picks up another's hand, and just as quickly puts it back down. finds her lips on another's, and another's. she doesn't really have to think about it. she's free to make the mistakes she wants to. she's free to leave them behind when she wants to.

there are some she doesn't leave behind, when maybe she would have before. she made the decision to come, but her shadow made sure she would stay.

and honestly? she'd long forgotten that she wasn't the one making the decisions.
