The feeling of buying an old mobile workstation from a couple in Wisconsin who are selling it on ebay for like a quarter of what it's worth is like this. You get it and it weighs 10 pounds and you hear it make ominous beeping noises when you turn it on and the battery lasts for half an hour, but it's fast, reliable, and has an owner's manual that tells you how to replace the main board in ten minutes if you want to.
The only things stopping laypeople from having one modern computer to use as a terminal to the internet and a few intranet-only 80s/90s/00s machines to do real work with older productivity software are

classic mac os actually worked like a cluttered desk and I miss it every day
i try to at least make it fit in better by absolutely plastering it with stickers and i think it helps idk
