So hey there's a few cool games out by Runehammer that are worth looking at if you're interested in trying new things!!
INDEX CARD RPG is a super cool minimalist (but complete) system, based on d20 but extensively hacked and polished. It's also very easily hackable itself and ideal for DIY projects or settings.
The Master Edition is on Bundle of Holding right now and comes with a bunch of bonus material, but you can also try the quickstart rules for free - it contains all the player rules and essential DM info.
There's also a new project on the horizon called CROWN and SKULL which has a free Player's Guide from the rulebook, with a lot of very interesting material to look at - I'm very interested in the Phases system of turns and the emphasis on player-facing rolls and customization.
Anyway go check those out, they're real neat and worth reading to expand your horizons! Get some good ideas in you.
