I have noticed that this is also getting applied retroactively to the messages, and thus: if you have previously tried to save Discord some bandwidth and storage space by posting a link to an image instead of uploading it again, your kindness will not be rewarded.

something confuses me a lot about this. they mention that cdn urls posted [within discord] before they expire, will be updated by the client when tried to be accessed after expiration

does this mean the actual message content... changes? when it includes an expired url to a cdn link that was valid on posting?

I would imagine the link in the message would remain the same but the client would simply strip away the expired parameters and serve up fresh ones for you to view the media through.

So like the link in that old message wouldn't change but if you open in browser that link you're actually viewing the media on would be different, as your client served a new id and stuff.

Does discord whitelist itself? I read somewhere else that it does, but it's always a struggle to find what's correct when it comes to discord.
The extra gunk in all my posts is probably costing it triple the space it'd need otherwise and will remain after this change happens, which is kinda hilarious how much extra storage is going to be rendered useless but still taken if this does brick its internal links.

I think the downsides of forcing constantly reposting and hosting every copy would be obvious, but discord has never cared about obvious shooting itself in the foot before.
