@ebu asked:

what do you like most about the linux/foss environment? and what do you like the least?

what do i like the most:

some of the amazing shit people have built off the ecosystems. look at kubernetes--we've got a fucking orchestration system that can be extended so much that people have hooked up minecraft, doom, hell one person made a portfolio generator as a CRD that due to internet enshittification I can no longer find.

jumping across, look at everything you can do with a foss desktop. games, drawing, writing, 3d fuckin modeling, I can literally embed android into my desktop, natively, and use it for running some games, and more. its came so far that i think it could serve as a proper competitor for mac and windows if people would be willing to give it a fair shot.

what do I like the least:

the stigma surrounding the linux and foss sphere that you need to be a turbonerd to get involved so you shouldn't even bother, when all you need is an open mind and a willingness to learn. admittedly a lot of this is not helped by elitism, however it also is, in my eyes at least, hurt by the fact that a lot of people refuse to give it a fair shot.

As an example, treating a linux desktop/a foss program like windows/its nearest equivalent instead of learning how it works (something they most certainly had to do on learning how to use a computer in the first place), or by tapping out all together saying it isn't worth their time. Obviously, if it doesn't work, then fair enough--your operating system and programs should be tools. But don't knock it without giving it a fair shot.

all that said to say, what I like the least is that there aren't more people in the environment mainly due to stigmas about difficulty or the expected audience, for lack of a better term.

Hope this answered your ask, if not please ask again
