i'd be a lot more interested in covid inquiries into "what went wrong during the pandemic" if any of them would actually acknowledge that we're still in the pandemic and things are still going wrong

It'd also be cool if "whoops, guess it's airborne after all" would lead to, you know, people actually doing anything about it instead of just going 🤷 and keeping on keeping on.

My pedantic self has to correct: we are not in a pandemic anymore. But the core of what has been said is true: the Covid-19 virus is still among us and is still a real danger that people are ignoring.

Endemic and pandemic are not categories with clearly defined criteria, but the most common definitions for endemic are "a transmission rate of roughly r1" or "a disease that spreads in consistent, predictable ways in a given place and time (eg. flu season). Covid does not meet either of those criteria -- it keeps surging in different places at different times as different strains with no clear indicators that can be used to predict short or long term behavior of the virus other than "case numbers have already started rise, expect them to rise more".

I do not care how many officials say "we have exited the pandemic phase, covid is endemic now". As long as the spread remains unpredictable and uncontrolled, we are still in a pandemic

Also, as we've only just seen (cfr https://cohost.org/things-to-read/post/3474502-over-time-through), people in power/that should have been doing something didn't because they were (partially, will get back to this) hung up on That Isn't The Correct Name For X It Means Y So You're Wrong, so... yeah, not a big fan of focusing like that?

Like, Pedantry can be Fun, but I feel like it shouldn't be involved where actual lives are at stake? But what do I know, I don't run the WHO/a governmental health agency.
