just a little snippet of what i've been working on today... i love the VRC7 chip. having 6 whole FM channels in addition to the regular NES ones feels like. cheating? but in a good way lol. a bit of a shame you can only have 1 user defined patch but that's not too much of a problem
gonna turn this loop into a whole track and then maybe i make more?? and finally release a new album after many many months????
one of my goals with my Pivot To Chiptune is to avoid making music that sounds too "video game-y". some gameiness is fine, and probably inevitable when using the Game Boy and NES and such as instruments. but i don't want people just thinking "hey this is like an OST to a JRPG" or whatever. i wanna take chiptune in different directions
that's why i love the idea of taking the limitations of Famitracker and using it for chill house music. the pioneers of the genre made the original tracks with very limited equipment too—Larry Heard basically only had a TR-909 and a Juno-106 when he cut Can You Feel It and Mystery of Love. well, what if he only had a Nintendo?
