So neat to once again watch "the ability to see one another's teeth" being valued over being in community with neurodiverse and disabled people

There is little that makes me feel more like a separate species than seeing everyone nod in agreement at "oh it's so lovely to see one another's faces again" like what are you talking about

Truly the level of meaning and value that NTs ascribe to the lower half of the face is baffling to me. “All the thousands of signals that allow us to truly connect with one another” yeah I have no idea what you’re talking about. NTs being able to see my face only results in them being weirdly hostile to me because my face doesn’t move correctly for them. I do not feel like seeing their teeth tells me anything about how they truly feel. How is this more valuable than 1 in 5 people being able to safely exist in the space at all instead of being totally isolated from society and forced to live on the edges, the margins.

What is so fucking galling to me is that there were other options. There were amendments that would have sought to resolve the issue of competing access needs.

It seems very clear to me that this decision was simply driven by people who don't want to bother with it anymore (to say nothing of being fed by the normalization if dangerous public health policy brought on by the sociological production of the end of the pandemic).

People are 100% only weird about it too because they don't like to think they have to do shit too. Like I wore a mask before the pandemic bc of allergies & I uswd to be self-conscious about my teeth and nobody mentioned it. All of a sudden I got people walking up to me like "oh I bet you're so pretty under there" bitch this is to protect you and your drink from my snot it doesn't matter how pretty I am

I thought the eyes were supposed to be windows to the soul or whatever. Isn't that how it's supposed to work? The humanity is stored in the tear ducts?

Gonna have to get a mask that says "the window to my soul is UP THERE ⬆️"

I still wear my mask and over the years have intentionally tried to "smile" more with my eyes since my mouth is covered. (Apparently smiling only with the mouth is more of an American thing? I dunno.) I do still try and keep my "eat shit and die" expression out of my eyes. Bearing my teeth privately is nice too.

I'm honestly not sure if this whole thing is just missing speciesal social body language or not. its like if a bunch of dogs said, "why do dogs care about tail posturing"

This isn't an argument starter thing its an honest question of is this just simplifying the whole thing on purpose, or an actual gap in knowledge.

I mean ask the NTs but a defining trait of autism is not having an easy understanding of nonverbal social cues. An autistic dog probably would not understand tail posturing
