pacific rim has the same number of steps getting in your way as manual controls because it replaced "figuring out how to connect to the machine" with "figuring out how to connect to your drift buddy"

I can't help but wonder if a neural link would put pilots at risk of being fried by certain kinds of weaponry. Special pulse to fry neural linked pilots without seriously damaging the machine.
this is an incredible business plan on multiple fronts. need to hijack a mech? done. pilot goes AWOL and you've got twenty more in the clone tank? it's handled
honestly, probably not, unless you assume the mech designers are incredibly reckless and put out an unsafe, unfinished product with major problems
which, to be fair, happens a lot in mecha shows
any remotely sensible system is going to have a limit on how much juice is actually going to get sent down the neural link, and any outside force capable of bypassing or forcing past that limit is probably going to cause a bunch of other damage too
What I wouldn't give to be able to pilot an escaflowne mech you have NO idea. If I ever make a VR game that's exactly what the fuck I'm doing.
I am torn, because I love this chunky manual control, but I also love the G Gundam bodysuit controls and that probably leans into the neural link style. But like. Boys with formfitting latex are hot.
