I think violin rosin is edible. I think it's probably as delicious as it looks. I think it probably tastes kind of like honeydew melon if honeydew melon actually tasted like honey and/or dew. I think the string quartets are simply holding out on us.
Extremely weird to see my internal monologue from back in my orchestra days on someone else’s cohost account, but here we are.
I have bad news for y’all
Rosin tastes like nothing. Absolutely nothing. An overwhelming taste of emptiness with a hint of sadness.
How do I know this? Please don’t worry about it!!!!
As a child I would eat both rosin and pine trees regularly… don’t ask me why, I was strange…
Rosin, unsurprisingly, tastes like less flavorful pine sap, which taste like bitter, sticky, pine needles, which taste like worse (bitterer) pine tips, which taste sort of like if you mixed pine tree smell with vitamin c.
If you’ve ever chewed a melatonin caplet you were meant to swallow while inhaling pine scent… that’s what rosin tastes like
I’d argue it’s not quite flavorless, so much as supremely unpleasant
That said, I did eat about half a weird rosin stick once
This was a roller coaster of a thread that I didn't know I needed cause everyone was right, it does look real good. Like if you took some honey and turned it into a butter stick. Wanna put that on a baguette.
