I didn't plan to get onto the career track I did, a series of wacky coincidences landed me where I am now. I couldn't possibly have planned it this way. But a bunch of stuff I did all ended up giving me the tools I needed to move further and further ahead. You never know what experiences will be useful.

One of the lines that resonated with me the most when I was young was in a manga called Ushio&Tora (it's pretty rad!) and it was like "one fool doing something is better than a smart guy doing nothing".

It's a bit silly but it really encouraged me to get off my ass (I used to think of myself as a smart guy living under bad circumstances) and make the most of my situation. I'd be disingenuous if I said that your starting point doesn't affect the outcome, at least partially, but I've found that you can get to better places than you think when you really stop making excuses to yourself. Not that I'm impling that's what you're doing, it's mostly related to my experience!

Wow, that...really hit home. I'm often told I'm smart, but it really doesn't feel like it with how hard securing a decent job has been. Meanwhile, most people I know can flow from one job to another in no time flat.

But it's true: If I am making excuses, then it's not helping me to get anywhere. Thank you.
