Minor spoilers for Momodora: Moonlit Farewell ahead!
I was taking screenshots of the in-game language while streaming Momodora yesterday, and today I found myself with nothing to do and a big Wordle itch.
I have no idea if this language is the same as in the other games or if it's already been translated or not, but if it is: I don't care. I'm mostly doing this for fun, since I haven't done anything like this since my old cryptography course.
Anyway, through some luck, I was able to decode most of the language just from the first four examples I found.
The first is from Koho Village itself and it's not really a stretch to assume that, if this is a simple cipher language, it reads "KOHO." Easy enough, three glyphs on the board.
The second example is the one where we got pretty lucky. This is the tablet found in the area where you get the Fool card, and given that two of those Os are right next to each other, it's pretty reasonable to assume they're in the middle of the word "FOOL." The H in the middle of the previous word means it's probably "THE."
This is where we have to make some guesses. The final word is the most promising, as with our guesses from above plugged in, we can get FOLLO__. This word is almost assuredly "FOLLOWS", which also gives us enough glyphs to recognize "WILL" in the line before.
Plugging in everything we know, the phrase on the second example becomes "THE FOOL WILL ____E _S FOLLOWS." Not bad at all. If you've found this place on your playthrough, you know you have to enter the arrow code on your D-pad (like in TUNIC) to get the Fool card. With some creative liberties, I took a guess that the phrase was "THE FOOL WILL DANCE AS FOLLOWS," as that seems like a reasonable command.
We'll be able to check our guesses with the third example. This one comes from much further down, and if we plug in the glyphs we have up to this point (including our guesses), we get _LESSED _E THOSE _A_KED __ DEATH.
Especially given the word "death" at the end, this seems like the earlier guesses were spot on. A little bit of Wordle-style deduction and we can surmise that this one reads "BLESSED BE THOSE MARKED BY DEATH."
And with all of those glyphs, we can all but read the fourth example I found, from the outskirts of the Fairy Village. After confirming the V-glyph through context, the text here reads "FAIRY COMMANDER ISHII FOREVER TO BE REMEMBERED."
That's the point at which I noticed that the script in the upper right is completely different from the language I've been decoding so far. Fun! Who knows what that is all about!
Anyway, this is as far as I've gotten. Fun times! I'll probably keep doing this while I stream more of the game, just for funsies.
And if the solution to this already exists: don't tell me, I don't want to know. This is too much fun.
