Well, did you get bit? You need to get that looked at even if the animal looks ok.

Thankfully nope. We reached out for it from as far a distance as possible using a metal coatrack and into the usual plastic bag to take it outside. It was still struggling in the trap as I put it in the can.
I'd have just put it out of it's misery. Rats suck (had one on my wall when I first moved to my new place) but I'd still give one a quick death over suffering.
I've had to play rat vs hammer a few times. Not fun. If you've been bitten, hustle to emergency, that can't wait for another day.
We didn't get bit thankfully. It was kicking and screaming to try and get out of the trap all the way to the trashcan, though.
Ugh, sounds rough, and I know I couldn't deal with a still alive trapped rat myself.
