This reminds me of how gay people in the 20th century used to use the phrase "they're family" as a way of saying someone is also gay. I remember an old boss was this older lesbian who came out in the late 80s and one time she told me that a member of the board is "family" and I was like "wait you're related to a board member? Isn't that a conflict of interest?" And she like harshly whisperer "no she's just gay"

I can absolutely imagine gay chinese people being like "He's a comrade ;)" in the same way

My one (1) fun Toki Pona fact is that this is also the origin of the word for nonbinary, "tonsi."
