There's an art to this stuff. Obviously this is a crime and a bummer, but stealing unwieldy items is fascinating.
Apparently the station has been in and out of money troubles for decades. I'm kinda wondering if it might have been an inside job?

Demiromantic asexual lesbian in love with Samus Aran. White. 28. Dragon who hoards stuff. I designed a small game once; hope to design more someday.

What!! I can’t even imagine how this was done. There are so many ways they could be caught in the middle of doing this and they weren’t.
The town I live in has this old neighborhood bar that has this 5x5foot concrete cube in the parking lot. It's painted white with the bar's name and a leprechaun embossed in green. It's been stolen and returned several times over the years. The thing is extremely heavy, too, so moving it is a feat.
usually just turns back up after a while. sometimes the cops find it, once they found it in someone's back yard.
Honestly if you manage to steal such an unwieldy item and manage to not get caught doing it, you've earned it
if you see someone and think "well they probably know what they're doing with that" (I would never question people moving a radio tower around) then they're home free
the things you can get away with while wearing a high-viz vest...
like when I found a dumb way to get free gift cards from redacted. that shouldn't be fraud cause it was funny
for more unwieldy crime, here is a recent polar bear heist: https://cohost.org/syl/post/4347794-important-taxidermi
There is an entire David Bowie concept album about cops whose job it is to determine "is this crime or is this art"
sometimes i find reasons to love my home state despite it all and this is definitely one of them
