I'm not sure how this link will appear, so, bear with me on that one.
Long story short, years ago my mom and I were sued by a debt collector for $3300. We hired a lawyer to countersue, which we could barely afford as it was. Well, back in February, the ordeal finally came to an end and we lost the court battle. We still do not have that $3300, and our lawyer is... not responding to our calls. So I'm not sure if we can file an appeal. And I don't know if we'd even have a chance if we could.
And today, we learned that some bills (Internet and the like) have gone up, on the paycheck that's going towards rent.
My mom isn't sure if she's getting a raise this year (she didn't get one last year). I've been unemployed since 2022 and haven't been able to find a new job yet (thanks to new disabilities and the fact that, apparently, getting ghosted by jobs is just a common thing now). If I was employed this might not be so dire, but it is what it is.
I know that things are rough for everyone, and I'm sorry that I have to ask. But any boosts or donations will have my eternal gratitude.
We lost because the specific court/judge always rules in favour of the plaintiff no matter what the facts of a case are. Appealing will cost more than the actual debt with no guarantee we'd even win, so he's trying to work out a settlement/payment plan with the debt collector that won't leave my mom and I unable to take care of ourselves.
Angry as fuck about this, but there's nothing I can do.
